Masks and More XO 7.8.2020

Dear Pilates Center of Cincinnati clients and friends,

Governor DeWine and the Ohio Board of Health announced a mandatory mask order for all counties, such as Hamilton County, that are at Level 3 and it becomes effective tonight (July 8th) at 6PM until September 8th.  Specific guidelines have been released for some sectors, but not yet for fitness centers.
According to the Cincinnati.com article:
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2020/07/08/covid-19-how-hamilton-county-enforce-its-mask-mandate/5396801002/, if you are exercising indoors and properly distanced, you do not have to wear your mask. Therefore as a reminder, please honor 6-foot distancing at all times and stay in your cars until just before class or your private session begins.

Where we can use your help is before entering the studio:

  • Put your mask or face covering on
  • Only bring in what is absolutely necessary i.e. keys and water bottle
  • If you are not feeling well, please stay home

While in the studio:

  • Go directly to your designated studio assignment and store your personal belongings in that same space, clean your hands with sanitizer
  • Before leaving, sanitize your area and your hands again and please exit the studio immediately following the end of your class/session, placing your mask or face covering on

With regards to our style of breathing while doing pilates, we ask you to articulate the breath but less profound please.  Thank you for your continued support and stay well, helpful and mobile. Here’s to 2021!

Pilates Center of Cincinnati Safety procedures in place

While returning to what our studio was like before COVID-19 is impossible, we are finding ways to safely bring Pilates back into your lives. We have spent time discerning what is best and here’s how we’re planning to proceed.  Thank you for your continued support!

  1. Re-opening on Tuesday May 26, 2020, boutique & desk exchanges remain closed.
Please take the time to update your profile on Mindbody, including your credit card information and email address. Communication is crucial so please continue to email us at pilatescenterofcincinnati@gmail.com or call the studio at 513 791 9070. Call forwarding will be utilized, as there will not a consistent person at the front desk temporarily.
  1. We will offer 45 minute in person Reformer and Mat classes (max of 4); all levels welcome.
Pre-registration is required on Mindbody as there will be no walk-ins allowed for the time being.  We ask that you are mindful of how many classes you sign up for as we reopen. Continually check the online schedule. If we see many on the waitlist, we will expand the class so a teacher instructs between both studios as 4 reformers will be in A and 4 will be in B.
  1. Ample time is allowed for clients to enter & exit safely with extra time to properly disinfect the equipment they use in class. Start times can help reduce traffic inside the studio so the class times will be different.  Please continue to check the schedule, because each week could vary.
  2. Private appointments will be conducted similarly with separate space allocated to one client and one teacher per room. These sessions will be arranged directly with the instructor or by contacting the studio at 513 791 9070.
  3. Additionally, we will offer virtual mat classes using Zoom and/or Facebook Live technology. Videos on demand are also available.  Please see the schedule for our current offerings.

We ask everyone to wear face coverings when class is not in session; you may remove your mask within the designated studio space only. Moreover, if possible, please kindly refrain from using the studio’s bathroom to reduce traffic and decrease contamination opportunity.  Masks are for sale, $1, if need be.

Please honor 6-foot distancing at all times and stay in your cars until just before class begins.  Where we can use your help is before entering the studio:
  • Cleanse your hands with sanitizer
  • Put your mask on
  • Only bring in what is absolutely necessary i.e. keys and water bottle.
While in the studio:
  • Go directly to your designated studio assignment and store your personal belongings in that same space. Currently, reformer class is in studio A & mat class is in Studio B.
  • Sanitize your hands before leaving and please exit the studio immediately following the end of your class/session, placing your face covering on.

Because health and safety is our top priority, we will be mindful of routine intensity and repetitions as we reintroduce Pilates and reformer work into your lives. Be sure to check the website as it is updated often and things can change rapidly. http://www.pilatescincinnati.com. With any new processes and procedures hiccups will surface, so thank you for your patience as we work through our new normal. We all look forward to seeing you soon!

Online Class Instructions for Zoom Platform. Woo Hoo!

How to setup before attending a class or private online:

To make your experience go smoothly – please review the following.

  • Download the ZOOM app for laptop or desktop here

Download the ZOOM app if you are on a mobile device here

  • Laptops are the best option to use. Phones and tablets are difficult to position and hard to see because of their size. If you don’t have a laptop – use what you have!
  • Make sure your screen saver is off or set for more than 1 hour.
  • Setup beforehand and try to adjust your camera so that the instructor can see all of you standing and prone on the mat. Seeing you clearly will help them to cue you individually whenever needed.
  • Aim your camera away from bright windows or close curtains/blinds/shades that are behind you.
  • Turn on all the lights!
  • If you’re using a tablet or phone – please use in the horizontal position
  • If you’re using a tablet or phone – please have a plan for aiming it. Something to prop it against, etc.… Laptop is easiest if you have one with a camera!
  • Grab a Pilates mat, Yoga mats or towel. The instructor will mention any other needed props before the start of class
  • Please join the class 5 minutes prior to have some time to get setup

If you would like to test your setup beforehand – just email us here

How to connect to your class:

You’ll receive an email from the studios before 30 minutes prior to the class. In that email you will see something like this:

Join Zoom Meeting
https://zoom.us/j/555555555

Just click on that link. If you’d like to download Zoom and use the app – please do! It’s a better experience.

If you’d prefer not to download Zoom – just x out the popup (if there is one) and click the link: If you cannot download or run the application, start with your browser.

Poetry for the Pilates Center in the age of Sheltering at Home xo

Here is a poem written by an Irish Poet, Kathleen O’Meara in 1869- after a plagued devastated Ireland in the late 1860’s- How appropriate for today.

SOMETHING LOVELY

And people stayed home
and read books and listened
and rested and exercised
and made art and played
and learned new ways of being
and were still
and listened more deeply
someone meditated
someone prayed
someone danced
someone met their own shadow
and people started thinking differently—-
And people healed…
And in the absence of people who lived in ignorant ways
dangerous, mindless, and heartless….
The earth began to heal—
And when the danger ended
and people found themselves…
They grieved for the dead
and they made new choices
and dreamed of new visions
and created new ways to live
and heal the earth fully
just as they had been healed.

Kathleen O ‘ Meara (1869)
